In the Spring of 2014 I did something crazy. One of my business mentors challenged me to read a personal development book and even handed me a copy of Dale Carnegie's "How to Win Friends and Influence People."
So what did I do that was so crazy?
Well, I took him up on the challenge...
Needless to say, it was life changing for me. One good book led to another and in a few short weeks I was putting together my first ever personal development plan.
That plan included reading one chapter a day in a personal development book and through this challenge I happened upon an incredible wealth of knowledge and was introduced to some highly influential people in the industry that I now consider my mentors and coaches.
I have taken their courses, read their books and I stay connected to their social media channels on a daily basis. So let me introduce you to them (in no particular order) and why I think they are people that deserve your attention and follow!
Brendon Burchard (Live, Love, Matter)
I first learned about Brendon from a book launch he did a few years ago. The book was "The Charge: The Nine Human Drives That Make You Feel Alive."
After reading Brendon's book I began following him on YouTube and his social media channels. His videos and course launches taught me a ton about the industry and led me to the thought leaders and top marketing trainers online.
His book "The Motivation Manifesto" is to date one of the most life changing books I have ever read.
Brendon is a New York Times best seller, author, trainer, coach and a master marketer. If you want to grow in your own personal development and learn from one of the best in the industry you need to be following Brendon Burchard!
Jeff Walker (Product Launch Formula)
I learned about Jeff through one of Brendon's launches. See, Jeff is the creator of Product Launch Formula, the number one strategy for selling just about anything online and Brendon is one of Jeff's top students.
After reading Jeff's book, "Launch," I began following his blog and YouTube channel. Just about everything I know about email marketing I have learn through Jeff Walker. He is the master, the Guru, the Man, but he would never admit to it.
If you have a product, a service, or anything to promote or sell online you should check out Jeff Walker and Product Launch Formula.
Marie Forleo (B-School)
I don't know how I even found Marie Forleo. I think it was through a mastermind group on Facebook.
Marie teaches an online class she calls B-School (short for business school) and is geared to entrepreneurs young and old -- mostly women but there are a few brave men who take her classes -- who want to take their businesses online and not come across sleazy, scammy or spammy.
I love Marie's weekly videos on YouTube and her website and if you sign up for her email list she will send you a weekly email update with links to her new content. I have not taken any classes with her -- Yet -- but I have gotten a ton of value from her weekly videos and emails.
I first learned about Crystal Paine through Dave Ramsey. He was talking about her book "Say Goodbye to Survival Mode" and it sounded like it was right up my alley.
I downloaded the sample of her book on iBooks and when I got to the end of the sample I hit the purchase button because I just had to know more.
This book was nothing short of life changing for me because 1) I was living in survival mode and 2) I felt like Crystal was writing the book right to me. I know she meant for the book to speak to women living in survival mode but personally her targeting is all off. :) This book is for anyone who wants to break free of survival mode living! Go read it now!!! :D
I learned about Michael through a Facebook ad. Yes. You read that right.
You know how it goes, as soon as Facebook figures out that you are interested in something it starts showing you related ads.
For me it was all the page likes and comments about personal development and building a platform to share my message. And, that is exactly what Michael is great at.
His book ad for "Platform: how to get noticed in a noisy world" popped up in my news feed and quickly landed on my reading list.
Michael's blog has had a huge part in my journey and the emails, launches, and leadership summit he did in 2015 have been stellar.
I have met, read, and taken courses with many other coaches and trainers in the past two years so this list could be much bigger. However, today I just wanted to share my top 5!
How about you? Who are your biggest influences right now?
